Climbing Stand Mods

Recommended Posts

Just over a week away from firearm opener and now that I'm digging out the gear I've started thinking about tweaking my climbing stand a little. I have already ordered the Molle backpack straps and will put those on when they arrive. The other idea I had was adding some sort of no-slip material to the platform as it can get a little slick if it gets wet.

What other ideas do you guys have? Anything that you've done?

Camo paint?

Anything to make it quieter?

Seat mods?

better shooting rails?

The stand I am using is one of the heavier/less expensive ones out there. Its rock solid but heavy.

On some of the stands that squeak when you move a bit, I have seen guys use that expanding foam and they shoot it into the rails if you have the type you can do that, it really makes them quiet.

I do not believe you will need a camo color on the stand when you are suited up in orange. Maybe for archery hunting

I have the same shoulder straps on order and they should be in early next week. I didn't go with the hip belt but can always add that if needed.

I've also heard about the spray foam thing Harvey is talking about. Overall my stand is fairly quiet at least compared to the other climbers I've used. I've used others that the clanging sound is really loud, my stand the clang is more dull and softer. Might be a byproduct of the heavier material its made out of. I don't think I want to go through the hassle of spray foaming the tubes for what would be a minimal gain.

I added a piece of carpet to the bottom section to quiet things a little. I added a couple accessories last year such as a hook and a cup holder/phone size shelf I found at Menards for cheap. I am trying to think of a way to easily add a foot rest to the stand.
