There are some monsters in there. I hunt a farm that borders elm creek. And if you remember that huge deer that was hit in maple grove last year came in and out of that park. Post a map of the zones

I use to live near by that park in Maple Grove. Here is an example of some of the freaks that are in that park. I would hunt the edges if I was you and expect to have people be walking around the entire time. full-27089-50342-img_0484.jpg

Z7,

I'm not surprised people aren't clamoring to answer. I have 3 friends who hunt when drawn and they don't talk much about the specific zone numbers they prefer either. That being said, all zones have potential.

From what I understand, you should have a number and get to pick when your number comes up. Correct? Once a zone quota has been filled, it's closed to more hunters. Correct?

The higher the number in the draw, the less likely you'll have your pick of spots?

This is just what I pick up from them.

My recommendation would be to visit the park on a bike and ride and walk to scout what you can before you have to pick. Even if you get your preferred zone, you might have to beat someone to a particular spot in that zone. Multiple guys seem to like the same trees from what I've heard.

Best of luck to you!

I hunted it last year. You guys have it right, they draw numbers to select zones. The map on here is a little hard to read but I think i was in zone 1. I hunted on the edge of zone 1 and zone 2 near the border of the park not too far from the Parking area on the west side just north of 117th. I saw two really nice bucks but never got a shot off. One right at first light (too dark to really see and then once i figured out what I was looking at, he had me busted) and the second was around noon. Key is to sit all day, just like any of the other managed hunts. Guys are wondering around everywhere and the deer move from one grove of trees to another or end up sitting in the swamps. Zone 4, right around the park headquarters was really the hot spot last year. Lots of deer came out of there and several nice bucks. It was a fun hunt and i would definitely do it again.

Heard there was a 9pt shot that weighed 245lbs this weekend at this hunt!
Yea dressed out at 245... and a 16 or 17 pointer that day too. Sundays hunt a 12 pointer dressing at 200 I believe. When I was at the check it station they had 27 deer for the day with I believe 4 parties still dragging deer back.

I was hoping for the same action as Sat the Elm creek people chased a couple nice ones to our property but none on sunday!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
