JSK76
A few things that surprised me on the new ION 10". One is that it has a centering point and second I just flat out can't believe is it's actually about 10 1/8" cutting diameter, I though for sure it was going to be 9.5" to 9.75" at best. Box says it will cut 400" of ice on a full battery so roughly 16 holes in 24" of ice. Might not seem like many but it was us wheel house guys begging for it since day one, it's not meant for the run and gun style fishing. I'm going by memory but is this the same auger bit as Eskimo, just green with a smaller collar at the end for the ION shaft?

Ion looks nice is the 10in normal height or short like the other ions
JSK76
It's says 42" on the box but without measuring the starting point it's 40.5" same as my 10" on my SM Honda Lite, so normal length. The Eskimo version is defiantly longer on my buddy's Eskimo Barracuda. Looks like it's the quantum

Boar
is there a bigger battery for more ice displacement or is it all the same head with just the flighting bigger?
JSK76
Same head, same battery and it's only sold as an accessory. I only bought the auger bit as I already had a 8" ION from the first season they came out. I've got to be honest, I was a little concerned when I opened the box when I got home. I was expecting it something in the 9" range just big enough for them to round up and call a 10". I made an adapter to put a 10" SM Lazer on my ION last winter and I only drilled 2 holes with it in maybe 10" of ice if I remember right. I felt like I was really working it hard and the battery' would only last a few more holes but can't say for sure because I stopped at 2. Now the Lazer is a shaver and the new 10" ION is a shaver/chipper combo so I would think it would be even less efficient then the Lazer. The only way I see this 10" working for 400" of ice on a charge is if the pitch of the blades is much less aggressive then the Lazer so it would take a smaller bite of the ice per revaluation. I had to compare the two to put worries to rest, as you can see in the pic the SM has a very aggressive pitch to the blades the the ION is almost flat in comparison, this is what I think will make the ION work just fine for what it was designed to do, drill 8 to 10 holes and possibly a few tip holes outside of the wheel house. JSK76
BTW when I laid the two augers end to end it sure looked like the ION was going to cut a slightly bigger hole then the SM.

walleye44
Please review this when you can cut some holes. Wondering how long the battery will last.
