Major Aurora Event!!!!

I would be remiss not to mention to any interested Aurora watchers and photographers about the major event that is happening now through likely Saturday night. If you have have watched the news you may have heard of the major solar disruption which is making its way to us! My phone has been going crazy with alerts on this event.

Normally the Aurora can be seen with a kp of around 4 to 5. The latest forecast for tomorrow evening is predicted to hit 7.5kp to 8kp. I personally haven't seen a prediction this high in years! I will be heading down to Dallas tomorrow but back tomorrow evening. I am going to try and head out of Minneapolis and head somewhere north to try and catch this one! There is a very cool map called the Dark Sky Map HERE that shows you light pollution in Minnesota. Gives a person an idea of where to go to get the darkest skies.

The cloud forecast for tomorrow night after 9 or 10 in the pm looks good! I hope to make it out and hope we see some others with some great shots from this event. Good luck to all who just try and view it and those trying to photograph it!

Same with me, out till just before one and nothing showed frown So much for the forecast! Three hours of driving for nada! I talked to a friend up by Park Rapids, nothing there either.

This is one shot from the evening. Two shooting stars going into the Big Dipper! I was shooting fairly high ISO and 20sec exposure so it looks like a sunset shot...believe me it was dark!
