MinnKota All-Terrain vs. Maxxum

I considering trading in my current TM for a MinnKota All-Terrain or possibly a Maxxum. Both would be the 65 lb 24 volt foot control model. What I'm looking for is a real reason to spend the extra $200 for the Maxxum. Does anyone have a good reason to spend the $$$?

I'm assuming that you'd get a little extra battery life and a little beefier mount but is it worth the $200?

Also, for those of you who have the AT or the Maxxum in 65lb 24 volt, could you give me an idea of how long you can go on a single charge? I'd be putting it on a Ranger R70.

Your input is welcome. Also if you have anything good/bad to say about either TM.

Thanks,
FlipR70

Its not a matter of a little extra battery.. If it was just a matter of a LITTLE extra battery they wouldnt sell any maxxums...I have the 74 lb thrust. And can go easily 2 days of full fishing on one charge and have energy to spare.. However, I dont ever do that. If you are in heavy wind and running that thing on high power you can kill batterys in quite a bit less time...Your batterys have a large say in this also!!!!!

Hey Flip,
I have had a Maxxum 74 on my boats for the last two years. They have been great motors, very durable. I am putting it on my boat for this year as well. I run an 1800 ProV, and had it on a 1900 ProV two years ago. I can stand on the pedal all day hand have battery to spare. You can't go wrong with it. The other guys have also stated a great case for the motor.

I was looking at that comparison as well. I owned a Maxxum 101 on my last boat and loved it.

I think the main difference is that the Maxxum has a little stronger mount and the Maximizer for extra battery life. The Maxxum is built to take a serious beating - walleye pro's put those mounts to the test, the average person would not. The other major attraction to the Maxxum is that it is offered in 74 and 101 lb. thrust. If your looking at 65 lb. thrust, I would bet the all-terrain would be a great motor for the money.

I run a all terrain 65# thrust in the 12v. I keep two batteries for it and can usually run for 2 days on it. The one thing I like about is the shaft bends if you run into something you shouldn't. The one thing i didn't like was the standard prop. I live on a milfoil lake and hitting them pockets the motor would heat up. I put on a new prop and all was fixed. But I do think that the Maxxum is an upgrade and have debated on getting one for the current boat or just having one put on next year with the new one.

i HAVE BEEN USING THE MAXXUM 65 24 volt for 2 years now and it is a very nice motor I can fish in current all day or for at least 10 hours on 50 to 75% power. I run it on a 1200 pound boat and I fish very thick slop and it truly is 4 wheel drive for your boat
