Bowfin
Anyone know if the cultivar of sugar maple called "Fall Fiesta" would be good for tapping maple syrup when they get large? Anyone have any experience or know anything about this variety of sugar maple? They look like they are a nice looking maple with great fall color. I would be planting some in Duluth and some in northern Itasca County.
delcecchi
I read about it and see no reason it should be any different than a regular randomly chosen sugar maple.
pushbutton
Not familiar with it but probably cultivated more for its color in less than ideal soil/vigor than anything. Agree with Del, and would assume most sugar cultivars would be similar in terms of percentage of sugar in the sap. Would have to say though, if you are wanting to plant a tree for future tapping, before you kick the proverbial sap bucket, would probably go with a silver. Not as high percentage of sugar(1.5 ish vrs 2 ish), but the growth/production rate would more than compensate.....
