I use 6lb Vanish flourocarbon for jigging mainly because thats what a friend convinced me to use. However I do really like it. I havent had any breakoffs but I always keep my drags adjusted. I also havent had any knot failures. I think you will find line preference varies greatly person to person.

I prefer a braid for the no stretch factor, when I was in canada it did not matter which line was used. I care spare spools with different lines if one spool fails, there is always a back up. Locally when fishing clear water lakes ( Green in Spicer, Pulaski in Buffalo with water clarity of 6-9ft maybe better I do care a good flouracarbon line that I can add as a tippet. Many times I have used flouro for easier changing of jigs. Tying a 3-4ft tipprt works all most as well as filling the spool with flouro line. If you decide to try bottom bouncing or trolling this works to feel your baits sooner.

I use 8# smoke Fireline with about 6' 6# flourocarbon leader on one of my jigging rods.

I use 8# green nanofil with about 6' 6# flourocarbon leader on the other jigging rod.

I like both. The important thing to remember is these lines don't always hold knots as well UNLESS you use the right knot and lubricate the line when pulling the knot tight. Nanofil is more sensitive to this than Fireline.

For tying on my leader I found the uni-uni knot to be very good. Never have a problem with the line breaking at the uni-uni before breaking at the jig. Because the braids are so thin, I usually give about 2 extra turns when tying the knot.

With either line if I choose not to use a leader, I use the Polymer knot. I have found the typical Trilene knot doesn't hold well with these lines. It's as though they are too slippery and just pull out.

Ditto Northlander. Suffix 832 with Trilene leader especially if your gonna be in the rocks. Get snagged, snap the leader, re-tie, back to fishing. Dont forget the small swivel between the two lines especially if you think you might tie on a jigging rap or jigging shad rap.

I went away from Fireline a long time ago because its flat and digs into itself on the spool too much. Power Pro or better yet Suffix 832 for me.

Same for me!

I use 8# or 10# on Vermilion. I tie direct to the braid. Don't need a leader because of the stained water here.

My set up is PP with a flouro leader. One tip about braid. There are complaints about "wind knots" with braid. Many times these are a line twist problem.

To relax braid; tie a swivel to something solid, tie/hook your line to it, let the line out, then give it five or six pulls.( putting a slight bend in your rod) Lower your rod so the line rest on the ground. Repeat this five or six times, then reel the line back on while keeping a sight bow in the rod? tension on the line. This will help ALOT! smile
