I was at Cabela's on sunday. They had Shinamo reps in store and had some unadvertised specials. I got a 7'6" shinamo graphite rod and 4000 series reel. Got 1 free reconditioning in the next 3 years, 1 spool of my choice of power pro 15 lb or 30 lb ( i chose the 15 lb (4lb diameter) was that a good choice?) and a free tee-shirt. Nothing like spending money on fishing when the water is still solid!

So what do you guys think of powerpro? I have only used one braided line before and lost 4 spinners last summer! The 7'6" rod ..... will that be a good rod for bass fishing? How would you use it?

Pretty sure it was me that sold you that rod/reel combo. It could have been Brian the other shimano pro-staffer...

Although I am a shimano prostaffer, I dont get my line for free. I have to pay for it just like everybody else. I spend about $60 on powerpro every year. Why? Becuase its the best!.. In my opinion nobody else is even close. The fact that we were giving a free spool with some of the reels was amazing to me. the 15 lb test will be fine just make sure you put a bunch of mono backing on your reel first. You want the reel to be full when you have finished putting the line on.. if you just put that 15 l braid on without any backing your reel will be no wheres near full....

Enjoy the new rod/reel

Thanks again... this post doesnt need to turn into a pat Exudedude on the back.

Someone along the line gave me great information and taught me, I enjoy passing it on to others as well.

Mr.Wood- Thank you for your work as Moderator and prostaff on this great message board.

Glen-we'll have to go head to head this spring and see if the toon can match your new ride!...

Thanks for the info. I did spool it with some mono first. I was just posting here (http://fishingminnesota.com/ubb/Forum57/HTML/000435-2.html) about jigging techniques and people were posting about using upwards of 50lb! test when jigging. This is 15 lb line. Mostly I had been fishing senkos texas rigged, but thought I'd start trying to jig/pig. Has anyone had problems with 15 lb test powerpro or may i need to use the extra spool that came with the rod and load up high test?

Second question - I have seen some discussion of tying mono/fluorocarbon on at the end. What do you think about tieing it on the end of the powerpro?

I'm picking up my boat this weekend and can't wait to try the new rod and reel! =)

15 lb. is enough for most conditions. There are times you will want more. I use 10 lb. a lot of the time. If your fishing slop or foil, you will want 30 lb.+ to get the fish out quick before they can bury you in the thick stuff.

I tie fluorocarbon leaders occassionally for clear water and more subtle presentations. Otherwise I just tie directly to the braid.

in my opinion nothing compares to Power Pro.... i use it on my spinnerbait rod (30lb./8 lb diam.) no stretch, great hooksets... resists abrasions when working thru bullrushes... and VERY strong when needing to unhook from weed hookups... i caught a Pike last year because he wouldn't let go of the line... he missed my spinnerbait in the front and bit the line.. i played him for a minute or two and got him in the boat when i realized he wasn't hooked but was just biting the line... i had to pry is mouth open to get the line out of his mouth ...AMAZING... the line was barely frayed...

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
