Power Trim Question

Recommended Posts

My 96' 90 hp merc tiller won't stay tilted. It was at a boat dealer for over a year while they rebuilt the lower unit. Now I got it back and the motor slowly falls back down when I have it tilted. The trim motor works fine.

What could be the problem?

Thanks!!!

Could just be air in the hydraulics. Tilt motor up. Add tilt trim fluid slowly so no air gets in the line. Replace cap tilt motor down and up about 5 times and see if it does the trick. Google is a good place to check regarding this issue.

make sure # 10 in picture is turned in all the way. it is a plastic bolt with orings on it. you could check the orings to make sure they are not nicked. this is a bypass to move the motor up or down with out using the trim motor. My 50HP did the same thing when i got it. the very tip of that bolt was broke off and stayed in the housing. its not the fill cap facing the motor it should be on the right side of the mount.
