Hot Pepper Identification

I bought a plant called "Cobra Pepper" at the market but doing a Google search The only thing I come up with is "Black Cobra Pepper" and the peppers are actually black. Anybody have an idea what type of pepper I might be growing? They started out with white flowers that turned into a green fruit and now are turning into a deep red.

*Also, how do I know when it is ripe and ready to pick

Ahhhh.... did some checking and see what you saw with that black cobra pepper. Yeah, does not appear to be the Venezuelan cultivar which goes from green to black to red. Once hot peppers became en vogue, all kind of cool names were placed on differnt cultivars or offshoots. Have seen "cobras" that looked like yours and one that looked like a ghost pepper. Yours is not the cobra ghost, but is probably some sort of really really hot Indian...maybe asian cultivar. Probably not a million scovilles, but suppose in the upper hundred thousands ...at that point it really does not matter anyway...they are just friggin hot. Just make sure you use gloves when preparing.....and good luck eating it smile

And don't rub your eyes or other sensitive areas.

From all the peppers I've grown and experimented with I found most that stick up towards the sky were cultivated as decorative plants.They are editable and probably hot.But not bred for the table.

They look similar to Cayenne peppers and I'd guess that's about where the heat is too. 30-50K.
