I've always had stainless on my motors, but they were bigger.( 175, 115,and 90 )I have an alum. coming on my new 60 HP Ranger RT 178. Plan to play with this set up for the remainder of the season. Just curious what other folks run on the smaller motors.

Bass and Walleye boats (may they rest in peace) did a test and concluded that it made no difference so far as performance goes for that size motor.

It might matter if you have as many rocks around as Vermilion does.

I run a 60 hp Yamaha fs and have a stainless steel prop. My boat is a alumacraft tour pro 170 and has a hard time getting on plain in rough water. I been told to run a 4 blade alum prop, but haven t bought one yet. I really have noticed a difference between my original prop and the stainless, it's just shiny!

Havent noticed much difference when switching to stainless on my 75hp yamaha either. Then again picked up my prop from prop md on the south side of the twin cities. He suggested to stick with the same prop as the aluminum one if I was happy with its performance. Which I was. Like everyone it would be great to go faster but if I wanted to go fast should of bought a bigger boat.

The biggest difference I have noticed and the main reason for switching is far less prop damage with every little thing I bump into on the river. With aluminum every little log, ice, gravel was a notch out of the prop. Usually one to two repairs a year. One year on the stainless and nothing even close to a repair.

Just a short up date. Got my little rig last sat. and took it to a small body of water to play on tues.( before having a hip replaced on Wed.). Seems to be a sweet little boat! Now I get to sit and look at it for a while! cry

Hole shot good considering it's only a 60. With that type of hull I can tilt the motor all the way down and go with a "bass boat type hole shot" or leave the tilt about mid/ slightly below mid and the boat will come up plane that way too. No GPS for now, but speedometer showed 32 with a full tank and two people. ( and I'm pushing 300 lbs.) LOVE the lay out of the boat! Lots of storage and well thought out floor plan. Only complaint is the drivers' seat is to far from the steering wheel.( I'm only 5-7 ) so I have to sit forward to steer. Handling is very good in slight chop and cutting across 2 ft. waves. Very PLEASED with my purchase! smile Just wish I wasn't laid up for now so I could used it!!!( Had hip replaced last Wed.)

That was the main reason I went with Ranger, ( course this is my fourth one too!! grin)was the lay out. Looked at other brands,( most were close in size and price) but the Ranger was a little wider, and the storage systems were set up for 3700 series plano boxes. Many others were for the 3600. I finally have a boat where I can store most of my stuff in it's own place!!!! Hopefully in a month I can get back on it!
