Have a issue with my tilt and trim motor. The issue is that the down button doesnt work all the time i can get it to work sometimes if i press the up button then go down but have to play with it. Question is is it easy fix or could be spendy and is it something anyone can do?

Are you sure it isn't the trim relay? Or a switch? What kind of motor?

Some more details would really help out. Typically this is just an issue with the switch in the throttle handle, however there is a wire harness that comes from the switch through the throttle arm into the main part of the control unit. This harness has a plug on it and it may have either come loose or have an issue with the connection for the direction you are having problems with.

It is on the throttle handle on a mercery force motor 40 horse Plus it seemed like before it only worked when the motor was straight with the boat. But when does go down it goes down with now issues. I am thinking more of a switch or wire issue.

Are there 2 little square boxes sitting below the sparkplugs? they should click when you run the switch. you could switch them around and see if it makes a difference in up or down direction. There may be a red and blue wire on the side of the engine that runs to these that you could switch around. make sure you are not playing with any ignition wiring. this is the layout on an early 90's merc. I have had the relays go multiple times. you could use a points file and clean them up and they might work for a little while. NAPA was able to cross reference for mine.
