Boat consignment and taxes

Looking at buying a pontoon that is on consignment at a dealer. Does anyone know if I have to pay sales tax on this? I know buying used from a dealer you do, while buying used from a private party, the tax is only paid on the trailer and not boat and motor. Buying on consignment - technically I would be buying from the private owner. Will help in my decision... Thanks a lot!

To my knowledge no taxes paid on a consignment sale.

I think you do pay taxes you pay the dealer who inturn takes his cut then pays the sellor

It depends on how the dealer does the deal.

If the dealer does the title transfer, you will pay sales tax on the boat.

If the dealer gives you the title signed by seller and you take it to the DNR or a Registrars office there would not be sales tax charged on the boat.

My wife works at a Registrars office and has seen done both ways by dealers.

We'll I bought it and he made me pay the tax. Said he has to register all consigned boats as he's bonded for consignments. Not sure I believe him, but the waters already under the bridge, can't do anything about it now.
