First off; what kind of grease and oil?

For grease I use the white lithium and reel ease oil. A light coating of grease on the big gears and usually a couple of drops of oil on shafts and worm gears. I will put a light coating of grease on the shafts( the ones where the shaft slides back and forth)the of spinning reels some times.

What type of reels ? Why are you lubeing? I usually tear down my casting reels every other year . Completly degrease.and re lube .. youd be suprised how thick the oil is in your bearings. Once removed and replaced with light wt. Lube most cast much smoother .. word of caution once this is done got to stay on top of it ! I put all my reel parts in a solution of simple green and water in a ultra sonic jewley cleaner purchased from wal-mart just makes sure you rinse out bearings., spin them.out on a tip of a pencil. And completley dry them before lubing (over night is best)in the event there worn out rusty, or chipped , check out boca bearings abec 5 or 7 s nothing smoother in my opinion !! Good luck !

I've owned many reels over the years and the only thing I do to them is clean the outside case. Unless your using them in salt water (and I doubt you are) most good reels will take years of use without taking them apart and cleaning them. I will say that some reals are stiffer in ice fishing conditions but they loosen up when they warm up.
