Opti Max Water Pump

I was told this weekend that it's a good idea to replace the water pump in my Opti Max every few years. Has anyone had a water pump go out? My dealership has never said anything to me, which isn't a surprise.

I had a merc 115 for 13 years. After a few years I asked the dealer about it. He said not to bother, they basically never wear out. On the other hand, the 1984 40 merc I had, had a water pump failure after maybe 7 or 8 years.

You might ask the dealer or some other dealer that you trust.

2008 115 HP Opti and I have never replaced the water pump. I check the "stream" every time I start it and it looks good. I am going to replace it this fall just because my previous 2 strokes needed it at about 5 years.

Yeah, and they still don't need changing very often.

The manual on my Opti (I found out when I finally looked) says every year or 100 hours. I relaced the impeller for the first time last year on my 1999. Pretty easy job to do.
