First Oriole

That's it. My first Oriole showed up and approved of my new feeder.

Cool beans Mike! Was wondering where and when they'd show first. White-throated sparrows were around last week and there was a rose-breasted grosbeak here yesterday. Usually the orioles are not far behind. Time to take down the suet feeder, put out the jelly feeder and use up any leftover oranges.

I didn't see any white-throats until yesterday and I had about a dozen in my yard at one time.

Aint seen either Oriole or grossbeak yet here near Willmar,I have noticed a lack of wood ducks.We normally have 6-10 pairs a morning checking and laying in the 5 boxes.This year 2 pair at a ttime has been max.Merganzers just showed yesterday,Is it the weather?? or lack of birds?

This oriole was one week earlier than my first one last year. Maybe the orange of the feeder helped attract it. Anyway, here is proof.

He looked hungry and mighty glad to see that feeder. Wonder what Mrs. Cheviot would say if I spray painted one of her muffin pans orange? I'd promise to give it back after the feeding season. Your post earlier inspired me to rummage around the garage for the feeder and load it up over lunch. Eyes are peeled.

That really looks like a good feeder idea. Saw a Harris's sparrow tonight. The orioles can't be far behind.

have not seen them here yet but hopefully soon. lottsa white throats. time to get they jelly a red sugar out. suet feeders are up year round.

Had the trifecta of migrating sparrows this a.m.: white-throateds, Harris's and white-crowned. Orioles should be within a matter of days.

After reading this thread I put my nectar feeders out this morning. Got an oriole already, no hummers yet though but my neighbor said she had one.

Youse guys inspired me, so I put out oriole feeder, hummingbird feeder (which orioles preferred last year) and cut up some twine and put it in an empty suet feeder in case they need stuff for nests.

It was the old fashioned stuff, not the plastic. I shredded it too. We'll see if the birdies like it.

Put out a buffet last evening and woke up to 3 Orioles and 1 female RB Grosbeak.
