House carpet in fish house

Menards has some foam backed high pile carpet on sale this week and I'm thinking about installing it in my wheel house. My house has that grey rubber one piece flooring that has the raised nickel sized circles.

It's good flooring but I don't like the look and the cold feel of it or the hardness of it. This house doubles as a camper too so I want a bit nicer feel to it then it has right now.

Last year I started drilling holes then letting down the house after and it really cuts down on the water and ice chips in the house, to the point I didn't even use the slush bucket. As far as hooks getting cough in it I have a sample and have been bouncing hooks off it and actually digging them into it and they seem to come out nicely and when I bounce them off it they don't even get hooked.

The carpet has colored specs in it and I think would hide blood droplets ok too (get a few funny looks when you talk about how well a carpet will hide blood stains while carpet shopping) plus I'm going to put vinyl in the front buy the door and cook stove so if I got a bleeder I could always move to that area to unhook it.

The last concern would be moisture getting trapped between the rubber flooring and the carpet but the foam backing would prevent this. I guess what I'm looking for is people that have actually installed regular house carpet in their fish house and how they liked it.

Unless your house is a toy hauler/trailer more than just a fish house I think carpet is the only way to go. I prefer the action back/plastic jute style but not sure why. In many houses I've never had a floor rot problem from carpet trapping moisture, besides if you use latex glue it's easy to change if you need to. I always keep a floor hole open with screen on it to prevent rodents from getting in and a side vent open for ventilation in the summer.

My biggest worry with this type of carpeting is the mold factor. I actually have indoor ourdoor carpet and want to rip it out and put in the one piece rubber floor

I put in flat rubber (not the coin finish stuff) this season and really like it. Wouldn't even consider carpet. I do keep a couple carpet samples (2x2 ft or so) for under foot, and use them and replace as they get nasty, seems to work fine.

Menards also has G-Floor rubber flooring on sale too, 7ft x 17ft for 130$ compared to 170 normal price. That's what im putting in. I have a toy hauler, so carpet will get dirty fast. Now I have to figure out what adhesive I'll need to get a proper adherence to the floor. I saw one house that had rubber flooring and it was starting to bubble up in places.

eagle; I went on line and did some looking...to tell you the truth, I'm not even sure where I ended up getting it, but rubber flooring inc. rings a bell, or something close to that.

There are a bunch of kinds, but avoid the cheapest "crumb rubber type; I think I got 3/8th inch smooth, black...it also comes in confetti (black background) for a bit more $$. The proper adhesive is EXPENSIVE! Tough to swallow for a single small house, but it's what is needed for a quality installation.

It only came in 40" wide rolls, but don't worry about the seams, the adhesive will do the trick. Don't be swayed to double face tape it down...the rubber will shrink when it gets cold and leave you with gapped seams (happened to me the first time) although even that hasn't really caused me any problems, I just don't like it.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
