Replacing Masonite (hardboard siding)

Recommended Posts

I have masonite (hardboard) siding on my garage and a few sections on the bottom layer are rotten and need replacing. I've done some looking on line and I think the best option is to replace the sections with a cement fiber siding with a smooth finish. It looks like that will come as close to matching the original siding as possible.

Does anyone know of a place in the metro area that has the 12" x 12' in stock? I did some looking on line and it appears that it may be a special order item most places. I just need 2-3 pieces and was hoping to get the job taken care of this week and I'd rather not wait the 6 days for a special order to come in.

Any thoughts?

I can't help you with the masonite, but I had a garage that had the same problem. My garage had a siding that was like fiber board with a shingle like surface. Then it was stuccoed for an exterior finish. I've only seen this exterior covering one other time. I looked around for a replacement, but was unable to locate this siding. I asked had a friend of mine who was a siding guy what I could do and he suggested that I install narrow clap aluminum around the bottom two feet. The texture was really close and it looked great.
