Sucker fishing?

Recommended Posts

The Cannon river has a variety of redhorse and suckers. I haven't been down there this year, but used to go down there in March/April every once in awhile. Toss out a simple slip sinker rig with a piece of crawler and you should find some.

While I've never caught any sucker/redhorse out of the vermillion river, it is absolutely loaded with sheepshead and carp! Green night crawlers are the ticket for carp. It might just be a mental thing, but in all my experience fishing the vermillion, I've never caught a single carp on a regular nightcrawler, but have caught plenty on green ones!

I gotta plead ignorance here- never heard of a green crawler! What are they?

Also, what is the best stretch of the Vermillion for carp and sheepshead?

The Vermillion I see when I travel on the 52 South is pretty small water for those fish.

Stick500, green crawlers are just what they sound like -- nightcrawlers that are injected with a nontoxic green dye. They're usually available at walmart. I find that they sometimes work as well as regular crawlers, maybe better in stained water.
