Root River Report

Its raining! I managed to pop a few shakers before the rain started. Water looks great on the south branch and just a tad high on the main...so far.

I don't know that I've ever said the following words in April before...but we could use some higher water down here.

Good to hear stream conditions aren't too low and clear back in the driftless region for the trout opener. I'm hoping to get a few trout myself next Sunday morning.

The weather wasn't the best but I found trout in the smaller water...still WAY better than last year! Nothing really large either. Water was 46 on Sunday morning near Preston.

Water was excellent in the south branch. The trout were a little on the tight lipped side but I got a few as usuall..and again nothing huge. Water still in the mid 40's with fewer people this weekend too. Its currently raining again in the Fillmore County area. A nice easy rain and higher temps this week should fire things up for next weekend.

Well, this last outing was tuff. Pressure was on to get a couple boys on some fish. The Root was dirty so we looked to some smaller creeks and did ok. Still better than last year but the rain just won't leave me alone. By Sunday afternoon the Root was looking a lot better but now I think its going up again.

Pretty little fish. Happy to see the kids had a good time of it. Used to fish those waters 50-years ago. Sure would like to again one of these days...just to walk along and remember.

Had to search out the smaller water again as the Root was high and dirty. Trout Day went well and the weather was great.

No mushrooms yet. Now its time to think about walleyes

Trout Fishing was Great. Root river was clear sailing. Got some shakers.
