dryer vent

Is there a code on how high a dryer vent should be from the soil? I replaced the cover on my daughter's house and it is sitting about 2 inches above the soil. I don't like it. There's a really ugly periscope looking thing on the web that you can buy and that may be something to solve the problem.

Thanks for your time,

Tom

I have never heard of a code like that, but I sure would be concerned about it too. If relocating it higher on the wall (and plugging the old hole in the wall) is not an option, maybe you can box in the periscope thing with siding to match the rest of the house so it isn't quite so ugly. I would just make sure that whatever you close it in with is removable so the duct cal be cleaned.

Is this duct run out a hopper window. smile

Don't think there is a code on height but more of a common sense deal.

Like you, I'd be concerned about snow plus vermin.

Its been a while since I've reinstalled venting but I believe the max run is 25' without having a boost.

A periscope or two 90 degree elbows will add 10' to the run.

If that put you over the 25' then for sure I'd look at rerouting the duct.

Along with 25" run there would be included.

Minimum 4" smooth metal duct.

No flexible duct.

Use a termination cap and no closer then 3' from an window or air intake.
