Another gorgeous morning today! The foliage really popped overnight. For the 2nd morning in a row, no gobbling on the property. I assumed one of two things, either no birds or he had some gals with him. After the encounter yesterday, I figured the latter. I didn't have a locator on me so rather than walk blind in the mosquito infested woods and risk bumping birds, I opted for an open area where I could glass and still hear well in two different patches of timber. It was quiet until 6:45 when I spied a hen out in front of me. Then another.

About 10 min later, I look out and see another bird entering the field. There he was, the dirty rascal - following his special lady friends. Never made a peep all morning. He came right from where I had parked and couldn't have been roosted too far away. Good thing I didn't enter the timber.

The hens were working away from me and I knew the tom would follow. I tried my best to coax him towards me, but as we all know, it's pretty dang tough to pry a bird away from the real deal. Being near the property line, I couldn't back out and get in front of them either. At one point, the hens had disappeared and he started my direction.

But only briefly. He broke strut and ambled up & over the hill to get visual of his gals. And that concluded my morning and most likely my turkey hunting for the year. If I had his roost tree pegged, I'd give it a shot tonight. We'll see!
