Fuel pump run on?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2012 Forester with auto transmission. I just went out to the garage and heard a noise like a little electrical motor going. Sounds almost like my aerator for my minnow bucket. Seems like it is coming from under the cargo area. This happened one other time that I know of, but don't often go out to the garage when it is as quiet as it was tonight. Anyway, I turned the ignition switch to on, but did not start the engine, then turned the switch off and the noise stopped and did not come back on. Could the noise be coming from the fuel pump? If it is, would it be from a bad ignition switch, a relay of some type or what? Would hate to run down the battery or cause a premature failure of the fuel pump. as usual, any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Think Spring!!

Still wondering what it was. Started it up today with no problems and did not make the noise when I turned it off. Any Subie owners out there with similar problem? Otherwise, it has been a very good vehicle.

Hi Scott. Thanks SO much for your response and knowledge. Feel better about it now. Does the system self test on a regular basis or only if it detects something different or out of the norm? Just curious.

Under certain circumstances it will test. It does it regularly though. It will after several hours of sitting, during certain temperatures, and certain miles driven that day. There should be something about it in the owners manual.
