F150 ecoboost axle ratio

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm looking at new F150s and there are 3 options for axle ratios.

I'm only considering the ELD, but the ratio is up in the air. 3.73, 3.55, and 3.31.

I'll be getting the tow package and max tow if I can find it which would be 3.73, however I'm looking to save by going with a 2013 model if I can.

I'm finding a lot of 3.55 and 3.31's equipped trucks that have the tow package, but not max tow.

I'll be hauling a 20' Salem Ice cabin. Am I crazy for considering the 3.55 or 3.31?

For those of you who tow with yours, what do you think? I wish I could hook up and tow before I push the buy it now button...

Thanks for all input.

Towed my ice cabin up north this weekend. First towing trip with the ecoboost. 2200 miles on truck.

No problem with the power! 20 foot salem ice cabin toy hauler, with a 700 Polaris inside. Pushing 5K easy if not a bit more.

Only issue was with the tail wag on the trailer. The ATV in the back really makes it trailer like dump. Pulled 9mpg going up. About what I expected.

Heading home, with no trailer, 20.3 mpg. Babied accelerations, only passed one car, coasted into small towns, but I did 5-9mph over posted depending on which roads. 80 miles of 75mph plus, and 120 miles at 60-64. Did have a pretty decent tail wind most of the time.
