Garmin Upper Midwest Fishing Guide

As we were talking on another thread, the Garmin Upper Midwest Fishing Guide chip has been discontinued.

I emailed Garmin, here's their response.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

It is my pleasure to assist you. Upper Midwest Fishing Guide has been discontinued. It has not been replaced or updated. For more information on maps that are currently available, please visit the link below.

Doesn't sound like they have a successor to this chip so you better buy them while they are available.

I remember before the UMWFG chip came out, they were blowing out the Garmin Lakemasters for $50, I still hold out hope that maybe a new chip is on the way but it doesn't sound good.

Right now the only chip I see as a ' successor ' is the Garmin LakeVu HD ( which is new )it covers the whole U.S. and costs $149.00 but is only supported by a few of the newer handhelds.

Thanks for the info Mike. The good news is that chip has a ton coverage in the midwest (9500+ lakes I believe), including many of the popular bodies of water in HD. If the chip covers the bodies you fish, I don't see the need for an updated version anyhow?

Either way, great info and thanks for checking!

!

I agree!

My worst fear is loosing the chip I have cry at $75 it's probably worth having a backup for the coverage it provides.

Thanks for the heads up Mike, I was going to order one eventually, but after hearing this I just ordered one...I wonder why they are discontinueing it, it seems like such a great deal, rather than $100 a chip..

There seems to be a good supply of upper Midwest fishing guide used chips on line for sale.. Picked up 2 chips for $85 a few weeks back. I got a spare to use in my Garmin Nuvi truck GPS. Not as good as a hand held but pretty handy on your dash for ice fishing and very happy with the performance.

I just purchased the DVD version last week directly from Garmin. The DVD and the microSD/SD verions are both still advertised for sale on their HSOforum for $99.99. Here's a screenshot.

Upgrading from MNLakemaster v3 for me was a huge jump. I'm liking what I have seen so far.
