Nils 14" extension/cold snap cover.

JScott

Question

I'm looking to purchase these, but are there any retail stores that carry these accessories ? I feel like 62 bucks for the extension plus 20 and 16 shipping quoted me from Nils USA is a little high. Not to mention going back and forth with all the emails to them just to set up the purchase. When I do a search it just keeps pointing to that one source for accessories. I like the auger of course, so NIls faithful please don't be offended. I didn't order it originally with the longer auger because I'm 5-9 and would rarely need to go through that much ice.

The Nils extension has the flighting instead of just a steel rod so its going to cost more then your standard auger extension. Not sure what your paying for the Cold snap cover but it that was the $20 you refereed to its a very good price. As far as shipping. $16 for Priority Mail to MN sounds about right.

Yes the $20 is for the cover so that sounded about right. Does a person really need the flighting on the extension? My other augers have been fine without it but I don't know if one would even be available. I have my old strike master ex out in the garage. Could that be made to work?

" Does a person really need the flighting on the extension? "

No but the reason for the flighting on the extension is so ice chips are cleared from the hole as opposed to an extension without the flighting and the chips load up and bind the drill.

I've seen more then one auger pinned to the ice because of that and getting it back out is a chore and gets worse as the water starts seeping up the hole and binds the drill in even more. The work around that is to lift the auger up a few times under power to clear the chips.
