Stick in Mud
Not to brag or anything, but yours truly IS the eel pout king here in central Minnesota. Challengers have risen and fallen, but I retain my crown. If you want a honey hole that's full of ten-inch fish, PM me. No way I'll share that spot in a public forum like this. Ryan_V
The further north you go, the better they get., they should be bigger to get decent meat, if you keep them. I don't think there's a go to bait or lure, I like to get them on mille lacs, I usually just put a fat head on a plain hook and put it an inch of bottom on rattle reels! Love eating those ugly things! They are a cold water fish, that's why further north is better! There are few of us that like the burbout! LOVE ME SOME POUT! JBMasterAngler
All you have to do is intentionally target walleye, the 'pout will come.
hawgchaser
All you have to do is intentionally target walleye, the 'pout will come. That's too true!!! I remember telling people that the only effective way to get hogs/pigs to go where you wanted them to go was to open a gate to where you didn't want them and pretend they were irritating you when they broke through a gate to where you wanted them to go. Jdjulik
LOTW is probably your best bet, especially right at sundown and just before sun rise. I probably caught 7 of them up there targeting walleye in 2 days out of zipple bay in about 27fow. A couple of them being huge hogs. We gave them to the old timer fishing next to us who was mad when he found out I released the first couple. Freshwater cod!
JSK76
I know a guy that fishes Leech and he almost gets mad catching walleyes he love the tast of pout so much. I saw a fishing show and they used rattling baits and bounced them of the bottom to make even more noise. Thats all I know about pout and really all I care to know!
