How to catch Pike alll winter long

Recommended Posts

Nice article that would apply to some people in the Late Fall but we have about 24" of ice right now. I suppose folks could reference it for the fall. I see your from Priest River. I used to spend time on Priest Lake as a kid. That is one of the most beautiful areas of the country. Is the Mack (Laker in MN) fishing still good on Priest?

Hey Mallard, I don't fish for the Mack's, but it's not like it used to be. The moron Game Dept. up here wants to kill anything worth catching and they have gill netted a lot of the Mack's in Lake Pend Oreille and Priest both. They also gill netted the Pike to extinction in the Pend Oreille River. It was so sad, as that was the best Northern Pike fishery west of the Mississippi. You can still catch Mack's in Priest Lake if you want to put in the time.

Wow, just looked up all that is going on out there. Sounds like they are trying to overmanage things back to the glory days gone bye bye out there.

It looks like the Kokanees and cuts are down because of a peak in the Mysis.

The Bull Trout being down doesn't make sense as I remember they were considered trash fish back in the day. I do know It's strongly suspected that Lake trout can't reproduce in the lower Great Lakes because of Dioxin levels of parts per trillion. I remember that only one fish is more susceptible to Dioxin than lakers and that is the Bull Trout or Dolly Vardens as I used to callem.

I guess I shouldn't feel so bad about the occasional fisheries mismanagement here when I see what's going on out there.
