Help Settle An Ice Shack Arguement From This Weekend.

Ok, was hoping you guys could help settle a dispute that came up in the ice shack this weekend.

In Minnesota, on a tip up/quick strike rig, you need just a couple beads for it to count as a lure instead of multiple lines, or do you need a spinner blade also?

Bonus points. What are the regulations in Wisconsin? Do beads suffice, or do you need a spinner also?

Thanks.

PS. there is a case riding on the concensus.

I thought that the hooks just had to be within 9" of each other. But now thinking about it I don't know. When using big sucker I have always used the rigs with the spinner on the top and the 2 droppers down to trebble hooks.

Really? Cool. I gotta check that out.

I've always kinda wondered if that little metal blade would make a pike drop a bait if it fell on the fish's back once it springs the tip-up?

I think it likely helps as an "attractor", but there again, if it ultimately causes the fish to spit out a bait, little cold piece of metal falling on it's back or head, then it's defeating the purpose.

I think, especially during the coldest winter months, the most "natural" presentations possible are the best presentations to catch really big fish.

Gonna have to change up all my late ice pike rigs now!

Yep. We alternate between heavy fluoro with a single treble hook for a leader and quickstrike rigs on our tip ups. We lost a few on the heavy fluoro so I like the quickstrike rigs. I buy the Big Tooth and several other brands. I like the red wire leaders with red blades and hooks. People say it looks like blood. Not sure if it makes a difference but it seems to work on our lake. Good luck.
