Love it! It was a little heavy right away, I don't remember the exact number but I think it was around 9 pounds. I sanded the lead down a little bit this year and dropped the weight to 7lb. 4oz. It hasn't ever sailed once, it just drops straight down but don't even attempt an angled shot with it grin. Only problem is I haven't had a chance to test it on any real pike, I've probably speared 6 northerns with it since last year but almost everyone was so small they went in between the tines.

Very nice Dooley. I have a Roger Cook spear and its heavy. Around 8.5 pounds if I remember right. You're right heavy spears aren't much for angle shots but if they are deep or straight down they are awesome.

Me and a buddy want to start making some that are either laser or water jet cut but add a tapered center weight to them with a wood handle and a threaded streamline rope attachment. I think they would be cost effective and practical and better then any laser cut spears in the big box stores

Be sure to keep us updated if you do something like that.

I have the same cook spear too and I have taken a few angle shots and all I can say is it gets the job done.
