Willy

Christmas is always a special time. Most everyone seems to be in fine spirits and even those who are not will usually respond to a greeting when one is offered. In our house things are probably a little different than most. We do not have any kids so a large part of the season trickles by quieter than I am sure many households would experience.

One event that we have always looked forward to is making sure that tucked under the tree were a few packages for the kid we did have, our little chocolate lab, Willy. For the last eight years Willy has been our pride and joy. He has been our boy.

Willy always looked forward to the Christmas Season. He seemed to really get fired up when every year he would come along to help pick out a tree. He loved checking them all out and always behaved around them. His favorite was always the one we ended up bringing home. He spent time in the garage when we returned helping to figure out again, how the dang tree stand worked. He certainly had more patience then me. He was always willing to listen to my rants.

When the tree came into the house Willy always acted like he never saw a thing. He never once bothered an ornament or anything under the tree. For five or six days he would put up with our ritual of putting packages under the tree. Always ignoring the fancy wrapped boxes even though he knew most of them were his.

On Christmas Eve without any prompting from us, Willy would walk over by the tree and sit down. He would stare at us with a look only a lab owner can appreciate. He just seemed to know that this was the night he got to open some of his stuff. One by one he would pull and rip, grunt and dig, trying to get into his gift. By the time he accomplished his task he was about worn out. Willy would go through the same process over and over until everything we gave him was opened. Sometimes we made him wait with a couple boxes until the next morning; he never had a problem with it. Some years he would sleep by the tree waiting for morning to come. No matter how excited, he would never help himself until we told him it was ok.

About two months ago we had to put our boy down. He is now with his big brother who for 11 years previous to Willy gave us the same joys every Christmas Season. To be blessed with a finer pair is unimaginable; it was a true honor sharing our house with them.

This year we skipped a tree, for it just didn’t seem right. One day we may again open our hearts to another crazy kid, but for now, part of this Christmas Eve will be spent reflecting on Willy. RIP little friend.

Thanks for reading the ramblings of a dog lover.

Merry Christmas to you and your wife Whopper. While you feel blessed to have had Willy, he was blessed to have you!

Wrap a present for Willy... put it where he'd like to lay. He'll stop by to give it a smell and to be with you on Christmas day.

Godspeed Willy.

Ken

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
