Hawg
I put a ceiling fan in my 8x16 yesterday and it doesn't seem to move air. Even lighting a match to see if the smoke moves gives minimal results so I'm sure it's not doing what it should. I have a 14 inch rise on an 8 ft ceiling, not sure what pitch that is. My ceiling hugger 30 inch fan blades come about 1 inch, maybe 1 1/2 inches, from the ceiling at the ends and of coarse about 10-12 inches down from the peak of the roof. Would you agree it has to be that it's Too close to the ceiling to be effective? It's a Menards cheapie but the blades are pitched so it has to work, right? Deitz Dittrich
I would say you are too close to the roof.. Did you try having the blades spin the other direction?
leechlake
I'm sure the distance to the ceiling is the problem but...if it's moving in the proper direction in the Winter you want it pulling air up and then the air will hug the ceiling and then hug the walls and rotate around. You want it going clockwise in the Winter, if you run it counterclockwise you'll create a "windchill" effect that you don't want.Check to see if any air is flowing down the walls while the fan is running clockwise. Hawg
Tried it both ways. At high speed down and holding smoke about 4-5 inches from it barely kept the smoke from rising, in fact it kind of went horizontal and even some up. No worries of wind chill there, it has to be too close I would think. I was going to use a fan that had about a 3-4 inch down rod on it but I was afraid it would rock and roll and break the blades when moving the house and securing it seems more work than it worth. Any body used the down rod style? I'm convinced this house will NEVER be completed.
stealth3350
ever stood directly under a ceiling fan? i dont think u really get any air flow directly below it.. try putting your match along a outside wall and see what happens... just my 2 cents
Gordie
Do you have the blades on correctly?
