2007 Tahoe DIC Out On Cluster

Recommended Posts

Wifes truck has been reliable with only transmission cooling lines replaced besides the normal things. Last weekend the DIC went out with the DRND21 in the cluster only lit up lightly. First thing I did was to check the DIC fuse and a couple others but they where all good.

Truck has 115000 miles on it and know these have been a problem for years. I could take it to the Chevy dealer or I could try to take it out and sent it in for repair. Wondering how much the dealer will charge and how hard it is to take it out. The cover plate looks like it's just around the cluster and probably has 4 clips but how easy is it to take off and what tool to use. Once that is off it sounds like 4 screws hold the cluster secure.

I found one place in Minneapolis that repairs them called D&D Instruments that wants $239 with free shipping to and from. Anyone use them or can suggest someone else and any other tips.

Thanks for help guys.

Drop the steering column tilt to its lowest position. Put the gear select in low or 1. Remove the trim panel, just clips that will pop with minimal effort. Unplug the connectors to the various switches on the trim panel. Remove the four screws for the cluster. Pull and tilt cluster forward until you can access the connectors on the back. Unplug and remove.

There pretty simple to do.

Thanks for the reply.

Have you use D&D Instruments or can you recommend someone that you have. I looked at it this morning and there is another piece on top and on both sides that needs to be taken off before the trim panel. That piece is held on by just 2 screws. I also read that have the parking brake on too when doing this. I assume the truck can be driven without the cluster in and the computer will update all the information. Just so it the original cluster but a new one must be programed. Is that true?

I going to wait until after Christmas to do this because I drive for the company with the big brown vans. We are busier than ever and don't want to risk such a delicate part.

I use D & D frequently. They give me same day service if I carry in before 10 am.

They will replace all the stepper motors and repair the DIC and give you a one year warranty.

They will also record and set any necessary mileage etc if needed, depending on the cluster.

I have yet to do one in anything newer than an 06, but they do those for me for 180 including tax. Make sure to tell them all the issues so they fully test it when finished.

Go on the bay-e and search speedometer repair.

There is a guy from the Winona area that charges $50.00 for a complete re-build. You ship it to him and he has it back in days.

He did one for me a few months ago and could not have been more satisfied.

I think he is the first vendor that comes up.
