I had the dual beam (9or19) on mine and it worked really well. I left it on the narrow cone most of the time but in shallow water the ability to switch to the wide beam was nice. Straight 12 is a pretty good compromise between the two though. If your satisfied with the way your unit works now I would save the money and treat yourself to a new Thorne Bros rod and Shimano reel!

I've heard some folks are happy with the tri-beam. I never used one that I thought was worth much, everyone I've talked with in person has a similar opinion. They all were noise prone and erratic. Vexilar isn't even offering their new fl28 with anything but the 9 degree.

I ran an fl22 with 9 degree last year and it rocked. Offered way better gain control compared to the tribeam. I'd keep your 12 degree, the 9 isn't magical.

All FLX-28s come with the Pro View. Having used both and liked both, I run Pro Views on my units now. The ability for me to fine tune my cone angle was the major reason for the switch.

I have the tri beam on an fL-8. only reason I have it though was because old xducer was shot so I was buying a new one anyway. I wouldnt say its head and tails better or anything but nice option to have if you need a new ducer I suppose.
