Im looking for a garage heater I found an older Modine LP Heater 25-30btu heater. This is a vented model, I am wondering if anyone has experience with these and if they have used a 20lb tank for them and how long they would last? I am looking for something cheap but also nice when im wanting to work in there. I am not looking to heat all the time as my 2 stall garage is not insulated just looking for some temporary heat when wanting to do projects in the winter.

Thanks guys

I just sold a 30,000BTU Modine.I am going to a 45,000 vented from the big box store. My 2 1/2 car garage wasnt warmed as well as I want.I used a wood stove to heat and the propane to warm it till the wood took over.

I do some glueing out there and need it above freezing overnights,so I installed a 40 min set degree thermostat.

I was having problems with the used Modine,Searching online I found others with common exchanger problems,Cracks, components needing replacement.Look at the boxstore the M one,They were onsale last week for??$400 normally $449.00.Avoid the repairs go new for that price and the extra 15000BTUs will make a big differance.

I work in the propane industry and Modine is a top brand. Very few problems with them and if some should arise, parts are plentiful. A #20 cylinder will NOT work well at all. You will need a minimum of 1 #100 cylinder, but 2 will work best, especially when its very cold. Your best bet is to call a local propane company and have them bring out a 120 gallon tank. The gas is WAY cheaper and they hold about 5 #100 bottels. Another benifit to that is you dont have lug those heavy buggers around.

Thanks for the info guys. I don’t want to do a furnace number one my garage isn’t even insulated and number two it only will be used on occasion.

AnyFish-

I was in the industry for a while as well and it’s been awhile. I don’t want to deal with putting a tank outside somewhere and doubt my city would allow that. I was hoping that 100lb tank would work as it works great for those ventless heaters as well as smaller tanks do as well (I have used a 20lb tank before)

I think my best bet and easiest option would be find a reddy heater/torpedo heater and just hook it up and use that when I want to go work out there....
