Worst opener -Truck window shot out while driving/A Cautionary Tale.

Yea tough to handle it calmly..other than a few deaths in my family, including my dad's, it was probably the most emotional event of my life. Not only because the slug was so closet to killing me but even just thinking about how easy a hunting buffy of mine could've been in the backseat, or how at that same time last year my 2 yr old son was in the backseat..that's what upsets me the most. I didn't drag them to the road but was darn close to doing that. CO and DNR arrived quickly thereafter. I haven't deer hunted since that day but I'm getting over it now. Just have to re-think slug hunting or maybe stick to bow next year.

Here's your answer Castmaster.

It went through the window, embedded into the middle seat top, and then must have fallen out as I found the slug laying on my dog bed, back seat, opposite side of shot window.

Ryan,

Glad you're OK and this story didn't wind up on the news because of a worse outcome. In the end, if you're settled with how it was handled then so be it. Good thing you have some time before next season to decide if slug hunting is still for you.

I've heard the whizzing sound of slugs a few times myself and certainly don't miss it.

I know the feeling all too well. I'll never forget it. Bullets hitting the dirt within only a few feet all around me. Dirt and gravel stinging my face, falling face first into the dirt, covering my head, and screaming for them to STOP SHOOTING!

Later the same day watching the entire group simultaneously shooting at each other while a nice buck ran down a shelter belt between the two halves of the group. Again, screaming STOP SHOOTING!

I walked away from the rifle season in Minnesota for almost 20 years after that. Returned to rifle hunting a few years ago, but still witness countless acts of carelessness, disrespectful and/or thoughtless behavior every year.

Glad to hear you weren't hurt. I still think there should be some type of psychological/vision/ethical written test given to every rifle carrying deer hunter in the state every year. These types of things just shouldn't EVER happen! There's no legitimate excuse what-so-ever.
