well guys i pulled the trigger and bought the new clam nanook thermal. well may i say somewhat happy yet disappointed. first they never show the seat mountings in there catalogs or on the box this one has removable seats but a bar that goes across the back so you lose storage space and cant use the seats with out it. second it was missing the storage bags that go on the seats i called the customer service and they are sending them right away. i was happy with that. however i've had 2 other clam products and they too had something missing. i really like the new clamps for holding and closing the mounting poles. i thought for the money the hard ware could have been better. the hinges on both side for the poles to flip over seem weak does any one else have a nanook and has it been good . overall happy with it but i was gun shy to get another clam but here is hoping

I actually prefer this type of seat set up for this house so I can reduce weight by taking one seat out when not needed. all the past Nanooks both thermal and non thermal had fixed seats that were not removeable or adjustable left to right or back and forth. the other thing I really like about this years Nanook Thermal is the interior is now all black and not gray like the previous Nanook Thermals. this is better if you like to sight fish. the place where you do loose some storage space is right under the seats. the previous ones you could fit flashers and other stuff under them. to me the ideal Nanook Thermal would be the new black interior from this year and the seats from previous years but make them removable. those two things would make the ideal Nanook Thermal. I will probably get one next year or may be a X2 Thermal.

I had a Nanook Thermal but sold it to my brother in law. When I go fishing with my kids we all use Scouts now. My bro in law has been very happy with the Nanook Thermal! He usually fishes with a kid so the size has been perfect for that. I still have a very old Guide and sometimes bring it out if I ever want the extra room.

Keep us posted on the shelter once you get out on the ice. I'm sure you'll be catching fish soon!!!

Good fishing,

Corey Bechtold

I've had a Nanook Thermal for about four years now. It is a great house and very warm, however I pulled the seats out after the first year. I hated losing the storage area under the seats especially when pulling the house with the snowmobile. I also thought those were some of the most uncomfortable seats I've ever sat on, especially when putting a long day on the ice. I like the extra room now and the option of bringing my own, more comfortable seat.

I bought a Nanook Thermal last year that was a few years old. Prior to that I was using a Frabill Trekker DLX. The Clam is a little smaller, and the seats aren't as comfortable (but they really aren't a problem). The heat difference is amazing. I run a Little Buddy heater and it gets plenty toasty in there. The Clam also pulls better. I wish you could open the windows on the Clam like you can on the Frabill, but the windows in the Clam don't fog up like they do in the Frabill either. I'm sure you'll be happy with it!
