Ford driveline issue

Recommended Posts

Mid to late 00's F150. 150k miles. This is my buddies truck and he was pulling out of my driveway yesterday and when he went to drive away he heard a loud pulsating sound. I crawled underneath and found the driveshaft had slid out of the transmission about 2" and the middle support bushing was completely out of its housing. It doesn't look like the rear axle has moved, so what else would cause this? I can't imagine the motor/trans assembly could move this much.

The carrier bearing is the part that supports the middle of the driveshaft correct? That's interesting as that part looked almost like brand new, just pushed out of the frame. I never would have thought that was holding everything in place. Thanks everyone, he'll be happy to hear it may be an easy fix, not the greatest thing to have happen the night before you head north for deer opener. Good thing they were planning on taking his brothers truck.
