leech~~
I picked up a DD-100 depth reader to mount on my FL-18 at the Blaine Ice show last weekend for $45 from REEDS. I noticed that mounting it flat to the holder as they suggested it would not be as easy to see, since it would not be at the same angle as the face of the Vex when sitting down low on the ice. Anyone mounted theirs yet and found a good way to do it better?
leech~~
What the heck. Am I the only one that bought one of these and put it on yet?

leech~~
BartmanMN, I already have it hooked up to the unit thanks, that was a peice of cake. What I am talking about is a different way to mount it on the holder so it sits at the same angle as the face of the Vex so when you are looking down at it when it is low on the ice you can read both the DD-100 and at the time also see the Vex dial. If you mount it like they suggest which is flat on the holder it is stright up and down but your Vex dial face is tilted up so you can see it. I was wondering if anyone else noticed that and if they came up with a better place or some kind of bracket to mount it at an angle?

You could get the pro pack and mount it on the top left side if the ultra pack isn't in the place u like?
leech~~
Ok lets see if this works better? Nice straight forward view at the same angle of both the information displays Vex & DD-100. Knowing that the camera is only about 10" inch away in this shot but your head will not be. Not so clear view of both information displays when the unit will be sitting on the ice or floor in the house. I am going to try and rig up some kind of little bracket to mount them both even. Just thought maybe someone else already did it?
LakeDocktor
I would get a small 1" piece of aluminum stock. Bend tabs on both ends to mount into the holes on your Pro Pack. Then bend the aluminum to the angles desired and attach the DD-100 to the aluminum.
leech~~
Thanks LakeDocktor, that's about what I think I will be doing.
BartmanMN
I see what you are saying now. I'd think you would only need to see the depth readout as you are hole hopping with it in your hand and once you sit down to fish, you don't need to look at the same depth reading anymore.Let us know if you fab something though. sckoolman
Funny, I just bought the dd-100 and immediately noticed the same problem. I happened to have an old bracket from a portable satellite radio for my car and mounted it in the same spot as the old battery meter. The bracket holds the new meter away from the case and the tilt is adjustable. As I recall, the bracket was really cheap (< $5). Here are a couple pics - hope this helps. BTW, I used 3M mounting tape, but screws would also work.
leech~~
That is a nice setup. Where do you get one of those brackets?

sckoolman
I don't remember where I bought the bracket, but did a search on amazon and I think this is it.http://www.amazon.com/Sirius-Radio-Unive...m+radio+bracketIf the link doesn't work, search "Sirius radio universal swivel mount" on amazon. As I mentioned, I used 3M mounting (VHB) tape. I clipped the sides off the part of the bracket (oval part) that I attached to the dd-100. It's nice because when you aren't using it, you can fold it in a little so it doesn't stick out.
sckoolman
Forgot to mention I mounted the bracket just high enough that I could still slip the power wire through the hole. With the normal setup the wire has to be routed through the hole on top of the battery compartment where the display power cord goes in. castmaster
So folks are actually buying these. I wondered how well they'd sell seeing as the Vex itself is designed to tell you the depth, lol! And a regular battery gauge is significantly cheaper than the dual depth/battery gauge.
leech~~
cast, some of us folks just aren't that great at math or are just to lazy to do it when fishing! So, since I don't blow money at the casino. I thought that I would gamble on this helping my math deficienies a bit!
castmaster
No worries Leech! Believe me I'm not one to judge others gadgets. Just that a friend and I were going back and forth on these. He's in the same camp as yourself, hates "deciphering" the depth reading the vex dial. SDo he thought these were the cats meow. I couldnt help but give him some ribbing on it, which brought about further debate. You know how it goes I'm sure!
