Bureaucrat
Anyone have any preference of one over the other? I bought the uninsulated blue, my brother says I should get the insulated gray. I figure I can layer up under the blue. You can't layer down outta the gray. What have you found, and in what conditions?
Rick G
It would be nice to have both, but I chose the grey suit. I have only gotten too warm once, while helping silverbullet guy shovel out his truck No matter witch one you picked I think you will be happy with your new Icearmor suit. JohnMickish
I use the uninsulated blue suit because I use my suit about 9 months a year. I can always add clothing under it to make it warmer. I have a pair of Cabelas insulated guide wear bibs that I very rarely use, the blue suit not only makes a good winter suit it makes a great spring and fall suit as well. A pair of the new high-tech long johns under your bibs will make them considerably warmer for when it is extremely cold out.
djt311
Don't think you can go wrong with either choice, depends on what you are going to use it for and how you ice fish I suppose. If outside on the ice a lot and you hole hop the grey suit is great for those cold days. If you fish in a fish house a lot with heat probably no need for the grey suit. I have the grey suit and love it I have never been cold and on the milder days usually only wear the bibs. I have other cabelas guidewear gear for spring and fall. I am sure you will be happy not matter what
Scott O.
I'd go with the uninsulated blue. You can always layer up underneath it. I've heard that the insulated one can be a bit bulky with its extra insulation. I certainly have never been cold while out on the ice in my blue suit. But, it's up to you. Depends on what you will be using it for and if you want to layer up or not.
Bureaucrat
That's what I figured. I just bought the new Wooltimate vest from Cabelas. It's heavier and has a thin profile. I have always used a few extra layers over my chest/stomach/kidneys. I've never had to use super socks, hand warmers, coon-skin caps etc. By the time it gets that cold, the fishing equipment starts failing before my clothes do. I bought the suit because I wanted something that is waterproof, windproof, and had the padded knees and seat.
Lawrence Luoma
I'm a huge fan of the Blue (edge suit). I love the fact that I can control the warmth with other layers. Blue suit can still be used as a rain suit in 40-50 degrees but yet rugged enough at -30 below. I tournament fish all year without a fish house and stay warm no matter what the temp. Just make sure you invest in good merino wool base layers and fleece or wool mid layers and you'll be fine. That is what I believe is the difference is. You spend equal amount on the extra layers but the extra layers can be removed. The extra installation in the grey suit you can't remove. palisade1kid
I have the gray /ulta suit and it is warm and comfortable. Had it on this weekend in the boat. With a few layers on I took off the jacket mid day....I do a ton of runninin & gunnin on ice...being warm is everything. You can always take clothes of but if your short then your cold and it is day over.Clam also makes a grey extreme suit...you should look at all 3. You said it Keith, with the run-n-gun style of fishing we do on the ice, the suits from Clam are warm and toasty. I've had my suit for 9 years and it's still warm, but a little rough from the use....LOL.
Dylan8351
You can't beat the blue suit. It is plenty warm if you are moving and not too hot for those spring and fall trips.
Valleye
I use the Blue edge suit and have been using that for 7-8 years. I bought the first version of the extreme suit but find it too bulky with the extra insulation. I use that suit maybe 10% of the time. Just like previous posters have stated layer your clothes underneath get a pair of warm boots to add and you will be plenty warm.
