mysnopro
Made a adapter for my 10 inch jiffy auger today to go on my milwakee 1/2 inch drive 18 volt impact wrench. Only want to drill my two holes in my shack with it! Seemed to have plenty of nuts to run it! Way more power then a drill. Don't care if itsslower, just don't want the fumes in my shack! CAMAN
It will more than likely cut a couple holes, however it will probably be loud as heck from the impacts it creates. Also this is a 1/2" drive, like the ones you mount a socket on, correct? How will you keep the auger from falling off and down the hole once you break through? Unless you have a hardened steel pin running through the 1/2" drive somehow, or figure out a way to mount a lanyard that won't get all twisted up and attached to the drill, I personally wouldn't do it. mysnopro
Got a cable ;lanyard i'm going to use. As for it being loud, i am good with that!Don't want the gas smell in my shack! Shouldn't be any louder then my old jiffy!
minnesotathorn
I burnt out a new electric 1/2 inch drill on the first 8" hole I tried drilling. I will be amazed if it will do it.
Greenhornet84
What kind of drill?
hugonian1
I wonder what the "pound" of the impact will do to the cutter. This will act similar to a hammer drill. They work great with a carbide bit but with a standard bit, not so well. That is the fun about the ice fishing world though. We will try anything. Hammer drills rotate while giving an impact down the axis of the drill and into the material. Impact drills give an impact around the axis that rotates the drill and very little force is actually into the material. The constant start stop of an impact drill may cause an issue with blade life but probably won't be noticed with the little use it sounds like it will be getting. A hammer drill would more than likely beat those blades to death fairly quickly.
20lbSloughShark
Am I the only one concerned? Who would be loony enough to prefer to listen to rapid pounding over smelling the deliciousness of a 2 stroke?
acesinthehole
I use a Craftsman’s Professional 20V Li-Ion Drill with a 8" nils auger and love it! I get about 20-30 holes depending on how cold it is and if I leave the drill out side in the cold.
mysnopro
My impact won't do it!!! Way to slow! I froze a block of ice in a tub and tryed it.
mysnopro
Help me out here guys, i am going to try it with a 18 volt cordless drill, should i use a straight drill, hammerdrill, or what?
LakeDocktor
Straight drill. 10" is a lot to turn with a cordless drill though....
LindellProStaf
Will wreck that drill fast. Not nearly enough power to run a 10" auger for long. Might work on a 7" in thin ice for awhile early season. Just use smokeless oil in your real motor.... Saw that here in a thread last year. Made a big difference in my house oil smell.
