Rigging your ATV....

....for icefishing. I was wondering if I could get some ideas on how to "pimp" out my 4 wheeler for icefishing. I believe they make a yolk for one's auger. Does anyobdy have any idea on this. Also I have a FishTrap Pro. I would like to put that on the back rack somehow. I want to be able to run and gun. I don't want to pull it behind my ATV and have stuff bang around. Do they make a rack or something that fastens a Trap down sturdy. Any ideas and thoughts are much appreciated.

There's many ways to accomplish what you want. Some guys have made homemade devices to carry such items. Forum user "Gissert" sent me the two photos below (thank you for posting them, Paul) and some aftermarket companies have products if you can spend a few bucks.

In a search engine try using "ice auger holder" and let us know what you find.

go to www.bucketrack.com

They make a great design to hold three buckets on your four wheeler & you still can use your rack. You can put all your poles in one bucket, minnow bucket in one, & your vexlar in another one or whatever you want. This is a great invention. They are made of steel not plastic too. I love mine.

I welded an auger rack for my rancher and it works great. I have got many compliments on it and would be willing to make a couple more for those interested. I made it so you just use a couple of U bolts to attach it, and the auger sits level. I don't even need to strap it down!

Gissert The Otter rack is a great solution. Anyone that hauls a wheeler and sled in a truck bed can appreciate your effort. Its amassing the ideas a guy can come up with. American Knowhow and a Little Yankee Thrift at its finest. smile.gif I think the rear weight issue will scare off any manufacturers from production, so if you want one its a do-it-yourselfer.

Surface Tension -

You are quite correct about the aft center of gravity. I need to make sure I find a ditch or small hill to cut the loading/unloading angle down a bit.

I built it just because I hated to mess with a trailer when it was time to fish. This set up has really made running and gunning much more efficient, and it also is easier on my gear in the tub. The entire load is cushioned by the ATV's suspension.

Here is a couple pictures of the auger racks I made. I use U-Bolts to attach them (not the zip-ties shown). Also I made it so my 8" auger would sit level, if you have a 10" it could easily put a riser in it.

Dave,
Yeah I didn't realize I couldn't post them, I can send out the pictures to email if interested. Or give me your email address and I'll let you post them.
