PGF
Question for those who make decoys, what have you had success with covering the lead? I started out with wood putty, that shrank, cracked and crumbled out over time. I just tried paintable silicone, which seems to fill the spot nice, but after sitting under water for a few hours the shellac comes off only where it is on that silicone. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
jasonmichalski
I use a epoxy and wood putty if needed and seal the areas with a wood sealer then prime with white vinyl paint and then I paint with vinyl paint, and use a coat or two of vinyl clear to finish it off. I've never had one problem ever.
PGF
Thanks jason, is that epoxy/wood putty mixed together? And what brands do you use?
Neighbor_guy
I like to use Loctite Heavy Duty 5min epoxy after the lead. If you let it cure overnight it can be filed or sanded back to the original profile you had prior to drilling.I tried bondo once.... great result and easy to work with.... Not so good in the water. jasonmichalski
I use loctite heavy duty 5 min epoxy and let it cure over night then if it is low in the hole or I'm going to burn over it I use wood putty I thing its wood plastic or something like that its in a can that has the opened end on the bottom, because its fast drying but I still cure it over night before sanding and sealing. shamalex72
I've used bondo on almost all of mine.
Dorkfish
I switch between bondo and epoxy pending on how big of a hole it is
