Sportsman Running Problem

RoosterR

Recommended Posts

I have a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 500 H.O. Started it up yesturday, starts and idles fine. The problem is when giving it throttle, it shuts off. Sometimes at 4000+rpm and other times at 2000rpm. Just like you were turning the key off. Any thoughts? Thanks guys.

is this Carb or EFI?

have you tried adjusting the slack in throttle cable? There is a ETC (electronic throttle control) switch on the handlebars that has some metal contacts in there that if there is too much slack they touch and it will kill the machine.

If you follow the throttle cable from the throttle there will be a short section in the cable with a rubber boot on it. You can slide or roll back that rubber boot and adjust the cable from there.
