MIDNIGHT777
I went with the 8 inch propane jiffy for my wheel house. Its heavy but can also use when out and about with the portable. 2 years and no regrets. Matt
JSK76
My vote is for the Big volt 10"
Hawg
There are only 2 electric augers worth owning,ION and Big Volt. If you want 10inch then Big Volt, but then outside holes are a pain. The others are just too weak.

bassNspear
I think im going to go with the Jiffy 10 inch. just have heard a lot of good things about them.
Hawg
Wait just a little while unless you get a steal on it. Jiffy is going to release a new propane one this year according to the rumour mill that will be lighter. There will probably be trade offs somewhere like head size or others. I called them and they wouldn't confirm OR deny it would be soon. They were pretty non commital but left me feeling it was true. The existing one runs great but it is a beast. morepower02
Having both an electric Strikemaster and a propane Jiffy I find myself using the electric in the wheel house and the propane out on the ice. The propane just spins to dang fast and makes for more cleanup in a house.
Hawg
Yup, a slushbucket becomes an absolute must with any gas/propane auger in a nice house. Another reason I like my ION, drills and RE OPENS holes with no mess.

Hawg
What is the new Jiffy propane? It's not on their HSOforum yet.
bassNspear
just the lighter version
Hawg
Does that mean more plastic? Are there specs or literature anywhere?
hovermn
Icegator makes a 36V auger that will take a 10" bit. You may want to look into that. Nothing else out there cuts like a 'Gator, and when you're cutting multiple holes in a house, especially when it's -20 with 30MPH winds, speed is everything That's experience talking right there! BLACKJACK
I have a 10" propane and am very happy with When you run the propane inside the house can you smell ANY fumes??
BLACKJACK
I have a big volt 10" love it. Good for reopening holes to Whats the difference between the Strikemaster Big Volt and the older Electra Lazer Stikemasters, hooked to an external battery?? Yes I know that the Big volt does NOT have an internal battery while the Lazer does, but you can hook the Lazer to an external battery once the internal battery runs out. Aside from that, whats the difference between the two batteries? The reason I ask is because I have a Lazer and have never been really happy with it, it seems very underpowered, its gotten to the point where I just hook it up to an external battery right away, but thats a pain dealing with the cord to another battery. pushbutton
Gearing and the blades. It spins something like 3 times as fast and has chipper blades. It is actually a nice unit compared to the electra. To be fair.... so was the electra at one time. Just way better technology out there now.Edit: Yes you do smell the propane. Not a big deal, but always makes me paranoid the furnace/line is leaking.
Sand Burr
Um.. if you smell propane its leaking.... There is no leaking of propane on the auger. I will say that propane exhaust has a unique smell to it if that is what your referencing.
low277
I used a Jiffy model 30 for many, many years. I still have it, but I bought a Big Volt 10" last winter for use mainly in a wheelhouse. The first time I used it on Lake of the Woods, we had a portable, hooked up to the pickup battery and drilled easily down until I bottomed out. Dry hole! Shoveled all the snow away that I could and tried again, still dry, son in law had axe with and we chopped down maybe another 6-8 inches and tried again, this time we just broke through with the tip, maybe a 5-6 inch opening in the bottom of a 10" hole.We saw our neighbor chopping with a spud, and we where able to borrow it to open the bottom of the holes.I was pretty impressed with the augers performance, I bought an extension the following day. This year I am installing a short length of cable and a Anderson connector which can stick out of the hood or grill for quick easy access. I will say that propane exhaust has a unique smell to it if that is what your referencing. Guess I inferring that he was asking if propane augers in general were odorless. Yes you are right, you do not smell the propane per se, but yes, you put it well.......it is a unique smell and prominent for awhile in the house. Not ripping on the propane auger either, would choose it over gas.Adam, big volts can be found at big box stores like Gander, Mills, Cabelas as well as any smaller shop that deals in Strikemaster products. Do not think they went over particularly well and might not always be in stock. They could probably easily be ordered though with pre/partial payment at a store. An internet search will land you other online options as well. Have seen them listed anywhere from 350 to 500.
rustysetter
just very minimal exhaust no issue at all, you end up opening and closing the door anyway to dump the shavings.
