Ufatz
Brothers think they want to hunt a few days in No.Dak this year. Need to know names of guides etc. in Oakes or Rutland area generally. Where to stay? Pothole shooting. Two or three days probably. Just need a place to hunt and not even need hand holding all day.
jblabsnduck
Save your money and freelance. There are plenty of places to hunt in those areas. No need to waste money on a guide for something you can do yourself.2-4 dozen decoys and you would be set (if pot hole shooting)Nice thing about ND is you don't have to ask permission if it is not posted. (we ALWAYS try to track down land owner before hunting)But have also been told BY LAND OWNERS that we don't need to ask.We just do it to be nice and make new contacts.Spend a couple hours driving around and scouting multiple sloughs and you will be set for a couiple days. BoxMN
Save your back and drop it to 3-6 decoys and a robo that is all we use.
TylerS
What they said! Guides do nothing but lock up land and make it more difficult to find spots. Do yourself, and everyone else, a favor and try freelancing. It ain't hard...trust me.
walleye18
your correct....but I wish everyone did the respectful thing and ask the land owner.....Its the right thing to do. I hunt in ND. Own property there. The last 10 yrs, I have seen the farmers post their land more. Remember, it only takes one "bonehead" to ruin it for the rest of us. like everyone said....grab some demes, and a mojo - you'll be golden out there if you scouted aa bit. Early Geese was slow for us. Not alot of birds. Cold spring and the birds left before nesting - were nesting when the snow and cold hit. Ducks appear to be ok population wise. Always good in ND - at least in my area. Best of luck
BoxMN
But also remember, in the fall farmers are out working. Having somebody stop them on their tractor is interupting them, and one reason why many post - because them they don't have half a dozen trucks try to talk to them while they are working. Not saying this is only reason, but respect the folks working. We try to visit them in morning at their home/shops before they go out, but honestly for us, we made great friends with farmers there in the past 12-15 years so we don't have to ask anymore, they tell us where the birds are We are not in the best area for ducking, but still have awesome hunting and great time, and little to no other hunters, as everybody seems to go to the "good" areas Good luck, you will enjoy it. The ND people are truly some of the nicest folks I have ever met.
Markula
Brothers think they want to hunt a few days in No.Dak this year. Need to know names of guides etc. in Oakes or Rutland area generally. Where to stay? Pothole shooting. Two or three days probably. Just need a place to hunt and not even need hand holding all day. There's a few opperations just east of Oakes towards Ellendale. Don't remember the names, but you should be able to find them on google. If the guy wants a guided hunt...so be it. Not everybody wants to/can do things on their own. Others feel like treating themselves now and then.
Ufatz
Okay fellas. Feathers Rainin
Ufatz you clearly have internet access because you are on here. Instead of driving out there you should check out this great thing called google.com. You can search for lodging and places to eat sitting at your computer with a stoke of a few keys. As far as talking to landowners you should do that when you get there. Hunting in ND is really pretty easy with some common sense and a little looking around.I don't hire guides but from what I have heard from others the guides in ND are terrible. We have stayed at a house that a guide owns and we always seem to bring back more birds than the guys that hire a guide. If you are set on getting a guide I would suggest going to SD in November or check out the Mallard Club in Minnesota. Good luck.
