New LED Trailer lights ...NOT...... Now what?

Recommended Posts

I just installed a pair of brand new LED trailer lights and new wiring. All I get are side lights and no turn signal or running or brake lights. Anybody recently replace regular with LED and have aproblem. Towing truck is a 04 Silverado, if it matters. Thanks in advance

LED's are polarity sensitive and must be hooked up correctly. Were they correct from the factory? I am an electrician and even I did it wrong. The functions you mentioned are all fed from different wires in the harness so my guess is polarity issues.

make sure the ground is good also. You may have to run a ground wire from the front all the way to the back depending on the way the trailer is built.

you could also grab a battery and jump power and ground to the tailights at the tailight. if they work than its either a connection issue, or a grounding issue.

I really appreciate your advice/experience. I'm a little confused on running a ground wire to the front. Which sounds like the way to go. So then I would connect a wire with a splice at the front of the trailer by trailer connector and run the wire back and split it to each turn signal? If I do this, what becomes the ground, the truck or am I just running to wires from each trailer light to the ground spot near the trailer toungue. Thanks again!

Will do...thanks Scott. I'm telling you guys this. If you want to retire and hunt and fish and travel for the rest of your life. Invent a wireless (digital frequency?) trailer light system that "takes commands from your vehicle and you'll be rich. In 2013, we should not be running wires just like they did in the 1950s! Just saying....... smile Now that I think About it....you would still need a power source..........hmmm

Too late..... that ship already sailed!

They are already available, and someone probably got rich from the idea. We have a set at work for towing and they work great. Battery life is awesome too being they are LED.
