22LR barrel for Contender...geez, made out of gold or what?

Recommended Posts

hsolist has them listed for $169.00. MSRP new $263.00. No big deal IMO.

My daughter shoots for Air Force Academy in both .177 air rifle and 22LR [ smallbore ]. Her air rifle [ Anschutz 9003 Premium ] set me back $3200. Her 22LR gun[ Anschutz 1913 ]set me back another 2700. I hope this puts things in perspective...

She shoots for the Academy and YOU had to buy the weapons? That doesn't seem right, my sister in law attended the academy for a year ( dropped out after it was discvered she was medically unable to fly) and she didn't pay for a thing when it came to Academy stuff......

Not exactly how it works. The Academy pays each cadet a stipend of around 900/ month from which is deducted: Dept of Defense laptop computer 4500.00 [ Lenovo, made in China/ go figure ], uniforms and uniform dry cleaning, regulation boots and dress shoes, meal allowance, and books, etc. My kid usually has about 50- 100 bucks left over per month.

No, shooters are required to furnish their own fire arms. It didn't bother me because the Academy coaches, who are both former gold and silver Olympians, find a way [thru left-overs or generous donors] to furnish cadets who lack funds to purchase their own [ which is a good thing IMO ]. I'm grateful that my daughter has an opportunity to attend one of the premier military universities by virtue of her grades and shooting abilities. She is eager to serve our country and pursue her dream career as an officer. It gives me a renewed appreciation for ALL the young people in all branches of the military who serve our country every day and I pray for them all.

I understand that some things can be more expensive. One can look at Chevy or one can look at Ferrari. My frame of reference is more like Chevy.

I will take another look at the link you provided for $169, but in first pass I don't get anything in the search.

EDIT: Oh...I suppose I don't get anything because the original link has been replaced by a link to HSOList.

Still seems like a lot though for just a single shot barrel, 10" (preferably) considering one can buy a complete non-competition bolt action or semi auto for about the same or even less.

You're right, i forgot about the monthy pay, etc..........still the football team and other sports teams don't buy a thing, she played on the women's Bball team and I know she didn't pay for uniforms, shoes, practice gear, or anythng like that. Seems a Shame you have to, or the cadets especially, have to purchase their own firearms for the shooting team.
