I would like to get my pup out and see if flush some birds soon I am planning on waiting another week or two though and was wondering what your take on this from the regs book does this mean all public lands???

Dog tRaining

Except as authorized by permit, a person may not train hunting dogs

aield on DNR administered lands from April 16 to July 14. A person may

train hunting dogs aield on other lands

I do not believe this include all public land. DNR owns/administers land such as WMAs, SNAs, etc. Other public lands would include county, possibly city, and state-in-trust. State in trust land is admistered by the coutnty in the county I live in. Not sure if this is the case state wide. As always, may not hurt to give your area DNR office a call.

Most if not all "county" lands are actually owned by the state unless otherwise stated in the plat books. Plat books used to call this land CAL in the plats. County Administered Land. The county is in charge of managing the resource, but the state holds title.

I know you're asking about regs.

But, from a training standpoint, you don't want your dog to see a lot of flushes that aren't shot/killed. You want control so they associate bird/shot/retrieve. Otherwise it could end up bird/no shot/no retrieve. It is a foundational upland skill you're teaching.

Flush and shoot dizzied pigeons as a start is my advice....
