Duck Mounts

I shot a nice drake wood duck last weekend and i'm getting it mounted. I know it varies alot on were you get it done and how you get it mounted. My question is what would an approximate cost be??? I really have no clue how much it would cost and would like to just have an idea how much.

The taxidermist that I use for mounts here in the shop gets $220 and that includes the driftwood. I believe he is on the cheaper end of the spectrum.

My guy is $250 I believe. I highly recommend him. I have nine ducks mounted by him. I always get compliments on the mounts. The lead time is in excess of a year. However in my opinion that is the sign of a good taxidermist. I'll pass on his name if you are in interested.

Have all my birds done in the Spicer area and pay $185. Have some buddies with birds done down here in the Sillies that go in the $250 range. Will try this here and will start another thread if no response. I once talked to someone about what constitutes a trophy bird mount. All beauty in the eye of the beholder crappie set aside, does anyone have some general guidelines. I think a woodie should have 7 or 9 bars on its side.

There is a guy in Sartell,MN that only mounts waterfowl. He is awesome! and the best part is that you don't have to wait a year to get your bird. I got my greenwing teal back in less than a month!
I wouldn't have a duck done by anyone else. You can see his work in the new St.cloud Scheels superstore.

I had a can and woodie mounted elsewhere and they are not in the same league! You get what you pay for, don't go with the lowest price.

1 black duck
1 canvasback
1 bluebill
1 hooded merganser
1 woodie
1 walleye
getting a rinbill mounted this year and also donating a can to him for his showcase.
all mounted by the same guy. all are in great shape have had the black for 8 years and it looks like the merganser i had mounted last year can't even tell the age on his mounts he runs 185 for small and 210 for large
my taxidermist won big game mount
2 years ago if that says anything
I would never go anywere else even for the price.

The guy that does mine charges $90 for a sitting mount and $95 for a flying mount = tax of course. But he does awesome work. It does take him a littel while to get them done because he gets so much business but it's worth the wait. I've had him do 2 redheads, 1 mallard, 1 Gadwall, 1 woodie, 2 mooded mergs, and 1 bluebill so far. I still have 2 woodies, 1 greenwing teal and 1 pheasant he's doing right now. It's early in the season yet and I plan on having at least 3-4 more to him before season end. But he does really do great work.

Hey Whitewolf, where are you at that you get them done that cheap? That's a really good price. I've had mine done from a guy who has a won a lot of national contests and he charges $200 but does an amazing job.

Gary Johnson owner/operator of Johnson's Taxidermy here in Wheaton. He just opened up a new shop on Hwy 27 west of town about 5-6 miles on the right side of the road.

I pay $100.00 for ducks and I paid $170 for a blue goose pedestal mount. The guy does great work.

labsnduck, Where do you get it done at? I wouldn't mind finding somewhere close that would do a good job for $100. That makes it a lot easier for me to mount a duck knowing that I'm saving $100. Thanks.

mwktrapper, the guy works out of his house down in Lesuer.

Last spring was the first time I tried him so I went down to look at his work and I was very pleased. I have a $250 mount and the goose he did for me is just as good.

He charges $100 for ducks and small geese and $150 for bigger geese but if you want a pedestal mount he charges $170.

I realy like his work and for the price you can't beat it.

By the way he is Federaly licensed.
